How to avoid Bordeaux traffic

• The ring (A630 rocade): nearly every route into or across the city touches it, so one queueing segment pushes delay onto the motorways feeding it instead of staying local.
• The bridges (Pont d'Aquitaine, Pont Chaban-Delmas): capacity drops to a handful of lanes and everything upstream feels it within minutes.
• The approach corridors (A10, A62, A63): delay builds outward from the city, so it looks small at the moment it starts and large by the time you arrive.

On working days Bordeaux has two firm peaks: roughly 07:00–09:00 inbound and 16:30–19:00 outbound. Around those windows, moving your departure by twenty to thirty minutes changes your trip far more than any clever detour, because the main corridors have no spare capacity to route around. Outside the peaks the risk is not volume but events: a closure, roadworks, weather, or a match or festival day.
