How to avoid Graz traffic

• The approach corridors (A2, A9, Pyhrn corridor): delay builds outward from the city, so it looks small at the moment it starts and large by the time you arrive.
• The tunnels (Plabutschtunnel): single points of failure. A closure or incident there has no cheap alternative, only long ones.
• Inside the centre: narrow streets, deliveries, trams or buses and restricted access. Cutting through town is usually slower than staying on the main road.

On working days Graz has two firm peaks: roughly 07:00–09:00 inbound and 16:00–18:30 outbound. Around those windows, moving your departure by twenty to thirty minutes changes your trip far more than any clever detour, because the main corridors have no spare capacity to route around. Outside the peaks the risk is not volume but events: a closure, roadworks, weather, or a match or festival day.
